TechMatrix 2026

A Multidisciplinary Inter-College Engineering Design Challenge

Same model. Different disciplines.

One building can mean different things to different engineers. Civil sees structure. Mechanical sees systems and movement. Electrical sees power and distribution. ECE sees connectivity and control. Different disciplines. One shared Environment.

The Challenge

Not Another
Question Paper

TechMatrix isn't designed to test how much a student can reproduce from a textbook.

We give students a building model and a problem from their own engineering discipline. Then we let them think.

Where should it really go?

Why should it go there?

What happens when another system shares the same space?

Is there a better way to solve it?

Example:

The Electrical Challenge

Students receive a residential floor plan and have to develop the electrical layout.

  • Lighting and fan positions
  • Switchboards
  • Power sockets
  • Distribution board location
  • Electrical components and their connections
Electrical floor plan drawing
Rendered interior

Every idea has to be justified with real-world reasons.

The drawing shows the solution.

The decision behind it shows the engineer.

One Model. Four Engineering Perspectives.

Different engineering problems. One shared environment.

Civil

How should it stand?

Explore the structural and civil decisions that make the space work

EEE

How should it be powered?

Plan lighting, power, controls and distribution with safety, accessibility and usability in mind.

Building model with discipline highlights

Mechanical

How should it function?

Think through ventilation, plumbing and mechanical requirements within the same environment.

ECE

How should it connect and communicate?

Explore data, security, communication and control systems that keep a building connected.

Real-World Relevance

Why the Same Model?

Because that's how modern engineering projects actually work. Engineering disciplines may be studied separately, but projects never happen separately. In industry, buildings are designed, coordinated and reviewed in a shared digital model, where every discipline works from the same information and conflicts are caught on screen long before they become costly on site.

Shared Information

Every discipline works from the same data and references.

Coordination

Decisions in one discipline shape the others.

Conflict Detection

Problems are found in the model, not on the site.

Great buildings aren't designed in isolation.
They're coordinated in one model.

How It Works

A Structured Journey from Campus to Real-World Design

TechMatrix takes students through a practical, industry-relevant journey — from a challenge on campus to a final design in a digital environment.

    The Challenge Goes to Campus

Round 1 happens directly at participating engineering colleges. Students from Civil, Mechanical, EEE and ECE receive the same model with a discipline-specific challenge.

  2. 02
    Step 02 illustration

    Think Before You Model

Students first solve the engineering problem on paper.

    • Understand the space
    • Identify the problem
    • Make decisions
    • Explain their solution

    94 Engineers Move Forward

From the college rounds, 94 students progress to the next stage:

    • 18 Civil
    • 28 Mechanical
    • 28 EEE
    • 20 ECE

    Total: 94 Finalists

    From Drafting to Design

Finalists receive industrial training to translate their thinking into digital design.

    The Final Design Challenge

Students return to the same problem in a digital environment and turn their engineering decisions into a final design.

How It Works

What Students Get
From TechMatrix

More than a competition.

TechMatrix gives you a real engineering problem, exposure to industry practices, and the chance to understand how different engineering disciplines work together.

A problem worth solving

Experience an engineering challenge that asks you to apply what you have learned rather than simply recall it.

Industry-relevant design exposure

Move from paper-based problem solving into CAD and live modelling.

Student working on a building model

Cross-disciplinary thinking

Understand how your engineering decisions sit alongside other disciplines within the same environment.

Access to practising engineers

Interact with people working on real engineering projects and understand how academic concepts translate into project decisions.

For Colleges

What's In It for Colleges?

Bring industry-oriented engineering thinking closer to your students.

TechMatrix gives participating colleges an opportunity to expose students to a practical engineering challenge without having to build the entire program internally.

  • Multidisciplinary On-Campus Round 1

Qural conducts the first challenge at your college, where Civil, Mechanical, EEE and ECE students take on discipline-specific challenges around a common model.

  • Industry-Oriented Exposure

Students experience a problem-solving format closer to real engineering decisions.

  • Industrial Training & Employability

Qualifiers receive industrial training, gaining practical design exposure, CAD skills and industry conversations.

  • Final Round

Winning colleges are honoured with a college trophy, while every participating institution is recognised.

  • Continued Engagement

Finalists can continue their learning through the Young Engineers Community, and colleges stay connected with future Qural programs.

Learning Transformation

From Drafting to Design

The idea students first work through on paper now has to survive a different environment. It's not just about software commands. It's about understanding how engineering ideas move from the sketch to an executable design.

The Final Chapter

TechMatrix 2026

Recognition deserves a moment.

TechMatrix 2026 concludes by bringing together students, parents, faculty, Qural and industry representatives for the final recognition ceremony.

Winners will be celebrated. Ideas will be recognised. Colleges will be acknowledged. Families will be part of the moment. And another group of young engineers will take their next step.

Built for What's Next

Built for What's Next.

The real value of TechMatrix isn't finding out who can produce the best drawing on one particular day.

It's creating more opportunities for students to think, try, make decisions, learn from engineers and see where their engineering knowledge can take them.

Every year brings another group of students. Another model. Another set of problems. And probably another solution nobody expected.

Same model. Different disciplines. Keep Engineering.
